Pewu Lavela is a Study Coordinator supporting the Tele-Sleep OSA study at the Center for the Study of Traumatic Stress (CSTS). He joins CSTS from Howard University, where he worked as a coordinator in the Clinical Research Unit. He has led and/or been a part of clinical studies such as: "Blocking the orexin system following therapeutic exposure promoted between session habituation," "Evaluation of suvorexant for trauma-related insomnia," "A Naturalistic within and between Subjects Comparison of the effects of Cannabis on Sleep among Young Adult, African Americans," and "Strategies for Controlling Unwanted Intrusive Thoughts and Insomnia Severity in Urban-Residing Young Adult African Americans." He has worked in Cancer Research with Revolution Medicines, Vaccine Research for Novavax, and GHUCCTS (Georgetown-Howard Universities Center for Clinical and Translational Science). He earned his Bachelors of Science in Applied Psychology from Coppin State University. Currently, he is obtaining his M.S. in Clinical Mental Health Counseling Rehabilitation from Coppin State University with anticipated completion Summer 2025, and will sit for his licensing exam.
